Robert L Metzger, age 83, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, February 1, 2021.
Bob was a practicing attorney for 58 years, joining Zeigler Metzger in 1962. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1937, he graduated from Euclid High School in 1955. He went on to The University of Michigan where he received his B.A. in 1959 and his LL.B in 1962.
Bob was involved with the Salvation Army Harbor Light Complex for more than forty years. In 1999, he was awarded the William Booth Award of the Salvation Army for services rendered to others as exemplified by the Army's founder.
Bob was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church in Shaker Heights and was active in the Shaker Heights Meals on Wheels. He was also a long time member of the Great Lakes Historical Society.
Bob enjoyed all sports, but particularly the Indians and the Wolverines. Bob was also an avid Browns fan - right up to Modell's middle of the night relocation of the Browns - at which point he became a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, alongside his granddaughter, Cecilia, who was born there.
He played fast pitch soft ball for several years and then switched to slow pitch, playing into his fifties.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Fran, parents Eleanor and Roger, and sister Lyn (Tom) LaPorte. He is survived by his children Richard, LeeAnne, and Susan (Frank) Kownacki. He was a loving grandfather (“Papa”) to Cecilia.
Services will be scheduled for a later date when it is safe to gather.
