Nancy Carpenter

January 31, 1932 — November 8, 2019

Nancy Christiansen Carpenter passed away November 8th.  She was a member of the Junior League of Cleveland since 1958 and worked for years helping children.  She spent fifteen years working as a volunteer at the Cerebral Palsy School in Cleveland Heights and with the deaf at The Chambers School.  She worked with the Girl Scouts during her two daughters’ elementary school days.

She graduated from Hathaway Brown School and attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.

She was a member of the Children’s Guild, Colony Garden Club, the Intown Club, and the Cleveland Racquet Club where she often played tennis.  She was also an avid bridge player.  She was a life-long member of Fairmount Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, William H.; three children: Edward L. Carpenter II (Elizabeth) of St. Simons Island, GA, Marguerite C. Carpenter of Chagrin Falls and Lynn W. Carpenter of Ohio City (Bill Vogelgesang); and four grandchildren: Hayley M. Carpenter of Dallas, TX, William H.S. Carpenter II of Portland, OR, Nicole L. Welder of Cleveland and Christine M. Welder of Chagrin Falls.

A private graveside Memorial Service is planned at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland.
