Josephine Newcomer Inkley, a native Clevelander, died at home Monday, February 22, 2021. Born August 5, 1921 to Ruth Chisholm Newcomer and Frank Christian Newcomer, Josephine graduated from Laurel School and attended Bennett College. She made her debut in 1939 at The Assembly Ball.
Josephine was an avid lover of the arts, gardening, traveling, and spending summers on the family island in McGregor Bay, Ontario, Canada. She was an emeritus member of the Garden Club of Cleveland, emeritus Garden Club of America floral judge, and emeritus member of the Womens Council of the Cleveland Museum of Art of which she served as president from 1975 – 77. Josephine was a past board member of the Holden Arboretum. She was a past member of The Chagrin Valley Hunt Club, The Union Club, The Intown Club, and The Twenty-first Century Club.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband of 76 years, Scott R. Inkley, MD and their ward, Marcia Williams LaRiche (Timothy). She is survived by her children Christian (William) Manuel, Leslie (James) Halloran, Scott (Roxanne) Inkley, Jr., Sabrina Ann Inkley, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cleveland Museum of Art or a charity of your choice.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Orange Hill Cemetery in Hunting Valley.
