Winifred Rubin

May 18, 1926 — October 14, 2009

WINIFRED RUSSELL RUBIN was a Professional Ballroom Dancer in the 1950's. Mrs. Rubin passed away October 14th in her Shaker Heights home surrounded by her loving family. Winnie, as her friends called her, was born Winifred Mary Hill in Paisley, Scotland in 1926 and moved to Toronto, Canada with her mother and three sisters in 1948. She started her ballroom dancing career with the Toronto Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Winnie's success included becoming the Canadian Ballroom Dancing Champion in 1950. After that honor, she moved to Cleveland to join the local Arthur Murray Studio, where she met her future husband, Alan. As Alan and Winnie Russell, they were a well known dance team in the 1950's, performing at the Bronze, Terrace, and Vogue Rooms, Lucioni's, the Alhambra Tavern and the Zepher Room. Her knitting skills produced many of the warm sweaters and scarfs for her young children and her life long love of animals kept furry friends of all kinds in her family over the years. She was the loving wife to Alan for 54 years, the dear mother of Scot Russell of Bedford, OH, Shawn Russell Mark Belasic of Bainbridge. OH and Elizabeth Russell Simpler Ken of Newark, DE. She was the grandmother of Blakeley, Gillian and Emmett. The family suggests that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Alzheimers Association, PO Box 72924, Cleveland, OH 44194 or the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119. Funeral Services will be held 1 PM, Monday, October 26th at BROWN-FORWARD FUNERAL HOME, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH, WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25TH FROM 5-7 PM. BROWN-FORWARD SERVICE 216 752-1200
