Sheldon MacLeod

January 21, 1928 — December 28, 2008

Sheldon Sackett MacLeod, resident of Orange Village, OH, passed away on December 28th, 2008 at the age of 80. He was dear friend to many. Born on the 21st day of January, 1928 in Providence, RI, Sheldon MacLeod was a graduate from Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA 1945 and Princeton University 1949. He served honorably for the United States Army from October, 1946 to March, 1948. He was married to Marilyn Jean Crosby a graduate of Denison University in 1951 on November 7th, 1953 in Cleveland, OH. Sheldon established a muti-million dollar business, Your Travel Agent Inc. Maple Hts, OH, where he served as Chairman of the Board, President/Treasurer and Professional Travel Consultant for 31 years. He retired and sold the business in 1990. Sheldon served as a councilman to Orange Village from 1990-1991. He was involved in various civic and cultural organizations throughout his life, including the Cleveland Opera Member Board of Trustees; past Vice President, Cleveland Opera League, Western Reserve Historical Society Member Board of Trustees at "Peerless Society" level, named "Volunteers of the Year" in 1995/6, Apollo's Fire, the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra Member Board of Directors, Friends of Apollo's Fire, Cleveland International Piano Competition, The Sheldon Family Association, Inc., The Order of Founders and Patriots of America, The Dunvegan Foundation, Inc., International Society for British Genealogy and Family History and the Singers' Club of Cleveland. Sheldon's personal interests included music, where he enjoyed all types from Jazz to Opera. His hobbies included bird watching and other naturalist subjects, genealogical research, lineage, family history, travel he has personally visited over 100 nations, hiking, walking, climbing, camping, canoeing, skiing, tennis, swimming, surfing, scuba, sailing, reading non-fiction, scientific, cultural, poetry both reading and writing, geography and world events. He had the ability to speak general words and meanings of four foreign languages, including Spanish, French, Italian and German. Sheldon MacLeod will be cremated and requested no funeral or memorial services. A reception will be held to celebrate his life on Sunday, January 4th from 2-5pm at Cleveland Skating Club, 2500 Kemper Rd, Shaker Hts, OH 44120.
