Sara Ann Coyle

Sara Ann Coyle (née Stevenson), beloved wife of the late Frank J. Coyle, passed away peacefully at her home on July 20, 2024. Loving mother of Ellen Stanton (Chad), Frank (Holley), Cathleen Schwenn (Mike), Anne Hungate (Joey), and Tom (Sharon). Cherished grandmother of RJ, Sara, and Steven Stanton, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Madeline Coyle, Emily and Katherine Schwenn, Molly and Maggie Hungate, and Patrick, Matthew, Ainsley, and Ashlie Coyle. Sara has three siblings, William Stevenson (Diane), Jane Cohn (Lee), and Paula Aubry (Bob).

Sara was born on September 12, 1937 in Ottawa, Illinois, She was the oldest child of Herbert and Mary Stevenson. She attended Rosary College outside of Chicago where she decided big-city life was what she loved. She met Frank in Chicago and they married in 1964. They moved to Shaker Heights in 1968 where they immediately fell in love with everything Shaker and Cleveland had to offer. Sara loved living on Sutherland Road which was full of young families like theirs and where she developed lifelong friendships. They also became active members of St. Dominic parish where all five of their children were educated. Much time was spent at Bulldog events and school programs. Sara considered St. Dominic to be her second family and she went to work in the parish office in 1983. She had a brief hiatus when she went to work at a local bank but returned to St. Dominic as the bookkeeper until she retired in October 2023. She decided turning 86 was a good time to retire!

In addition to her family and her work, Sara loved to travel. She was fortunate to join friends and her children’s families on many grand adventures! Sara loved crossword puzzles and reading the daily paper- especially the comics. She enjoyed Cleveland sports and followed all the teams- considering that part of current events. Sara also loved to shop- really to save, and her favorite saying was “but I saved more than I spent”!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to The Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH 44122, (at Norwood Rd.) stdominicchurch.net where a Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 2nd at 10am, followed by the interment in Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.
