Salvatore Volpe

February 9, 1929 — July 21, 2017

Salvatore L. Volpe, 88, Gates Mills, Ohio, passed away on July 21, 2017. Longtime Shaker Heights resident, where he and wife Geraldine raised their family and were active parishioners at St. Dominic Parish. Born in Garfield Heights, OH and raised in Detroit, MI, Sal attended Kenyon College and graduated from Wayne University. Sal loved music and enjoyed entertaining family and friends by playing the accordion, the piano and encouraging group participation by singing along with him. Sal spent most of his professional life as an educator, first as an elementary school teacher and assistant principal in the Detroit area, and in Cleveland as an administrator for numerous technical colleges in Northeast Ohio. In his later years, he worked advocating high school programs in woodworking and manufacturing. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He met his future wife while stationed at Scott Air Force Base near Belleville, Illinois. He is survived by his brother Stanley (Nancy) of Overland Park, Kansas, eight children, Tomas (Pamela), John (Mary Ellen), Nanci Ferrante (Patrick), Christopher, Maria Maag (Robert), Lisa McCabe (Andrew), Joseph (Megan) and Paul, nine grandchildren and his companion Leila Simpson.

Volpe who passed away on July 21, 2017, FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD FUNERAL HOME, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD, SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH 44120, FROM 9:00 to 10:00 AM ON MONDAY, JULY 24, 2017. PROCESSION TO CHURCH OF ST. DOMINIC, 19000 VAN AKEN BLVD IN SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH FOR FUNERAL MASS AT 11 AM. BURIAL AT LAKE VIEW CEMETERY WILL FOLLOW.
