Patty Lou Schoonover Frolking, 89, died December 19, 2014, at Arden Courts in Chagrin Falls, OH.
Loving wife of James E. Frolking for 66 years, mother of Chris Frolking and Margie Nulsen (Kneeland, CA), Tod and Evelyn Frolking (Granville, OH) and Steve Frolking and Joanna Wicklein (Durham, NH). Grandmother of Erika and Simon Lee (Bloomington, IN), Jason and Lindsay Biga (Corvallis, OR), Haley Wicklein and Erik Lindquist (Rollinsford, NH), and Zoe Frolking (Carrboro, NC). Great-grandmother of Max, Maggie, and Jamie. Dear sister of Lex Schoonover (Edina, MN). Courtesy aunt of long-time neighbor Jill Herrick.
Patty was born in Stroudsburg, PA in April 1925, and lived in Shaker Heights for 80 years. She graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1942, and earned a BA in English from Flora Stone Mather College in 1946.
A considerate and caring wife, mother, and friend, always thinking of others before herself, throughout her life Patty created a comfortable and relaxed home that many visited and where all were welcome.
Always an avid reader and a lover of words (and crossword puzzles), Patty retired from working at Shaker Heights Public Library, Bertram Woods Branch in 1986. Patty was a thoughtful writer - her short notes were always a pleasure to read, and are treasured by her family.
Patty was an appreciator of the simple, whether it was the beauty and curiosity of a raindrop on a window, a lovely view, the perfection of a peanut butter on pita sandwich, a well chosen word or phrase, or the sensible way a container was constructed. She leaves with us these simple appreciations, her carefully worded thoughts, her wit and wisdom, her love and loyalty. So many have gained such valued ways of doing, thinking and feeling, all from the quietest person in the room.
No services will be held. A celebration of Patty's life will take place in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that friends make a contribution in Patty's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 23215 Commerce Park Drive, Suite 300, Beachwood, OH 44122.
