Norma Schieb

February 15, 1927 — May 31, 2009

Norma Lucia Hertel Schieb, age 82, passed away May 31st, 2009 in The University Hospitals of Cleveland. Norma was born in Cleveland and lived in Cleveland Heights her entire life. She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1945 and went on to Central School of Practical Nursing. Norma practiced her nursing at several area hospitals, including the old Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital when it was located out on Green Road and then MacDonald House, located at the main University Hospitals Campus. She started her family and combined the duty of raising her four children with her job of working in the day care program at the Heights Family Y, in Cleveland Heights. Her deep devotion to her church, The Church of the Saviour, United Methodist, of Cleveland Hts., led her to be extremely active in the East Side Ministries Program. She worked through the 1980's and 90's with that outreach program which served many folks who were dealing with many challenges in their lives. Norma taught both life skills and spiritual skills to these folks who all looked up to her for her kind support. Norma loved to write inspirational stories based on her own life experiences. These stories reflected dealing with such pivotal events as the loss of her husband, John, at his young age of 59, in 1984, and the support and sustenance she found in The Scriptures of the Bible. Norma also loved to crochet and she made many pieces for both her family and her friends. Her friends enjoyed many other generosities from Norma. Specifically, they were blessed by her skills at entertaining and cooking for everyone at several beautiful and sumptuous parties. She just loved life and shared that attitude with all who knew her gracious self. Norma was the dear mother of Judith Ann Schieb of So. Euclid, OH, Sally Lucia Hayes Michael of Cookeville, TN, Clark R. Schieb Kim L. of Silverdale, WA and David Norman Schieb his fianc?À? - Kristin of So. Euclid, OH. She was the dear grandmother of Rebecca Hofman Kurt, Dawn Helene Schieb, Sarah Michelle Hayes and Jenica Marlis Schieb and the great grandmother of Alexander Mathias Hofman and Kyle David Schieb. Norma is also survived by her dear friend and companion, Marvin Spiro. The family suggests that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Cleveland Sight Center 1909 E. 101st Str., Cleveland, OH 44106, The American Heart Association, 1689 E. 115th St., Cleveland, OH 44106 or The Church of the Saviour, 2537 Lee Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118, where Memorial Services will be held Thursday, June 4th at 10:30 AM. A private family interment will be held in Acacia Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brown-Forward Funeral Home, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Hts., Oh, Wednesday June 3rd from 3-5 and 7-9 pm.
