Nicholas Eugene Rimedio was born on August 31, 1938, in Youngstown, OH. His parents, Joe and Kay Rimedio, were in the grocery business. Therefore, food has always been a major part of his life. He lived in a time when neighborhood kids played outdoors together all day. He loved all sports, especially football, and was a Browns fan until Art Modell fired Paul Brown. After that, he followed the Steelers.
Nick graduated from Todd School and Rayen High School in Youngstown, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Youngstown State University, and his Master’s from Kent State University. During his college years, he worked with the football teams as an athletic trainer. He taught Physical Education in the Cuyahoga Falls and Shaker Heights City School Districts and opened a small music store which he ran for many years.
He had a great eye for beauty and enjoyed collecting beautiful things like books and antiques and traveling to beautiful places. He loved the City of Shaker Heights and wanted to keep it safe and beautiful. So he carefully watched the street lights and trees to see if any needed work and promptly called them in. He often bragged that the Shaker Heights Service Department is the best in the world!
In 1967, he married Margaret “Peggy” Pittenger. They were married for 56 years and raised their daughter, Nicole, who is a talented artist and jeweler. He also has a son, Richard Guttenberg, from a previous relationship. He is preceded in death by his parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family prefers that those who which may make contributions in his name to The Shaker Schools Foundation, 15600 Parkland Dr., Shaker Hts., OH 44120.
A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 9th at 10am in The Church of the Gesu, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Hts., OH 44118. Entombment Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, OH. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH 44120 MONDAY JULY 8TH FROM 4-6PM.
