Miriam Freer

MIRIAM THOMPSON FREER Died January 27th at the age of 105. She was born in Newark, Ohio on January 11, 1904. She was the only child of Maude and Dr. Clarence Roy Thompson. He had his dental office at 1555 Cedar Ave. Since both of her parents died of tuberculosis before she was a year old, she was raised by an aunt, Mary Elizabeth Evans, who lived in Newark, Ohio. She graduated from Denison University in 1925 and married DePew C. Freer that same year. They lived in Cleveland while he finished his studies at Western Reserve Law School and she worked at the American Red Cross. His office was in the Union Commerce Building in Cleveland but they lived in Shaker Heights. She was preceded in death by her husband, DePew C. Freer, a son, Thompson D. Freer and a son-in-law, Gerald Cannon. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Alice Cannon, a son and daughter-in-law, John and Marita Freer, another daughter-in-law Betty Freer, nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. The family suggests that those who wish may make contributions in her name to Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, 2860 Coventry Rd., 44120.
