Mary Blazey

d. March 9, 2015

Mary J. (Kennedy) Blazey; wife of Leon W. (Lee) Blazey for 52 years. Mother of Nancy Wilkinson, Pamela Newell, and Peter. Grandmother of Ryan, Samantha, and Alex Wilkinson; Riley and Ben Newell; and Tyler and Michael Blazey. Mary was the middle daughter of John and Wilma Kennedy (deceased). Her sisters, Suzanne Thompson (Memphis, TN) and Beth Wasserbauer (Hudson, OH) survive her.

Mary was the consummate trouper, following Lee to USAF posts in California and Boston, enjoying each location, working as a babysitter to supplement the then meager government pay. Proving she was a traveling lady, she enjoyed Cleveland, Houston, and Washington DC, and partook of all the cities had to offer, including involvement with cultural and civic organizations. During her life she was involved with the Junior Women's Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra where she produced the children's Key Concert Series for a season, one with Margaret Hamilton (Wicked Witch of the West) as the star; Houston Symphony where she helped create "Symphonyathon," a Women's Committee fundraising project; the Alley Theatre where she created the first theatre store; and the Corcoran Gallery, working on their famed annual ball. She worked with the School for Contemporary Education in DC as well. She enjoyed traveling and wound up refusing to go to Hawaii with her husband on a business trip, saying, "What, again?" This from someone who thought she'd never see Hawaii. Full of Irish humor and Irish temper, she could be an unstoppable force.

Now, her creator has applied the brakes; for all that knew her...too soon. She requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions might be made to the Lee and Mary Blazey Chair in Taxation at the Weatherhead School of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH 44106, to which she and Lee have pledged their estate.

Friends may call at Brown-Forward, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Heights, OH 44120 on Saturday, March 14 From 3-6 pm.
