Mary Ann Wolpert Davis passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025 in Aurora, Ohio. She was predeceased in 2019 by her beloved husband of 63 years, Charles W. Davis. She was the cherished mother of Elizabeth (Mark Bayles), Laura (Michael Monroe), and Alice (David Tornquist); and dearest Grandma to Elizabeth Monroe, Matthew and Caroline Tornquist. She was a devoted sister to Regina Bower, aunt to Kimberly Davis Koeller, Paul Davis, Christine Bower Baca and Anne Bower Saddler, and friend to many.
Mary Ann was born in New York City in 1933 to parents Frank and Edith Wolpert. She graduated from Bayside High School and Connecticut College with a degree in psychology. During high school and college, she developed her love for playing the piano, something she enjoyed throughout her life, both for personal pleasure, and as an accompanist and a piano teacher.
She met Chuck while in college and they married in 1956. They first moved to Michigan, where Mary Ann taught elementary school until they started their family. They then moved to Chuck’s hometown of Shaker Heights, Ohio where they lived for over 30 years. Mary Ann was very involved with her community, including Plymouth Church where she sang in the choir for many years, The Cleveland Botanical Garden and Fork & Hoe Garden Club, and The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes. After raising her family, she returned to school and took computer and accounting courses and worked as a part-time bookkeeper for Standard Steel Company. Mary Ann and Chuck were dedicated Cleveland Symphony Orchestra patrons for decades.
When Chuck retired, he and Mary Ann began a new adventure, building a home in Walden in Aurora, Ohio. They greatly enjoyed the process of designing special touches for their new home, and making a new circle of friends in the Walden community.
Mary Ann loved to plan family vacations, including trips over the years from Maine to California. There were many wonderful family gatherings in Hilton Head, South Carolina, including adult children and grandchildren, and a memorable Disney cruise with the entire family to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mary Ann and Chuck enjoyed traveling together to many locations in Europe, the United Kingdom, Alaska, and Hawaii, and the Panama Canal. They also took several memorable river cruises on the Mississippi and Columbia rivers.
Mary Ann will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Cleveland Orchestra, 11001 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44106 or to Plymouth Church, 2860 Coventry Rd, Shaker Hts., OH 44120, where a memorial service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
