Martin Speirs

Evelyn Speirs "Evie" Martin, born April 4, 1907 in Lenox, MA., died peacefully in her home in Baltimore, MD., on April 13, 2009, at 102 years of age. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. John W. Martin, who died in Cleveland, in 1985. She is survived by her three daughters; Bonnie M. Stein of Boulder, CO., Elizabeth M. Rogers Robert H. Rogers, Jr.of Brooklyn, NY and Nancy M. Warren Dr. John W. Warrenof Baltimore, MD.; six grandchildren, Tracy S. Peterson of Little Rock, AK., Jeanne S. Kelsey of Carpinterian, CA., Katerine R. Smith of Brooklyn, NY., Dr. John M. Rogers of Philadelphia, PA., Augustus W. Warren of Brooklyn, NY. and Abigail F. Warren of Baltimore, MD; and eleven great grand-children. Prior to her death, she was the oldest living graduate of Columbia University's school of Nursing. Her early nursing career began at the then Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where she met her future husband. She and her husband moved from New York to Cleveland, which became her home, for over sixty years. She was deeply involved in numerous Cleveland organizations, including Cleveland Hearing and Speech, The Cleveland Natural History Museum, and Fairmount Presbyterian Church. She loved to read, travel and be with her family. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Memorial Fund of Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 2757 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118. Memorial services will be held at Fairmount Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 6 at 4pm.
