Martha "Martie" Black

Martie Black, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished friend, and enthusiast of life, passed away on April 4th, 2024. Martie's journey was one of boundless love, unwavering support, and a zest for all the joys life had to offer.

Beloved wife of William F. Black; loving mother of Kathleen V. Carvin of Cleveland, OH, Karen G. Rankin (Mark) of Atlanta, GA and the late Scott T. Gerard (Mariah Turner); Stepmother of Stephen and David Black and the late Jimmy Black; dear grandmother of Turner (Nicki) and Matthew Carvin, Coleman and Brandon (Risa) Rankin, William and Frances Gerard; great-grandmother of Walter Carvin and Isla Rankin; dear sister of the late Joanne Hahn.

Born on March 6th 1936, Martie's life was a testament to the beauty of adventure and the simple pleasures found in nature's embrace. She found solace and joy on the green fairways of the golf course, riding her bike around Cleveland Hts. and surrounding suburbs, and walking the sandy shores where she delighted in collecting shells as treasures from the Atlantic ocean shores from Cape Cod down to Wilmington, NC.

Martie's journey was marked by a commitment to education and a passion for shaping young minds. A proud graduate of Shaker Heights High School and Ohio University, Martie earned her teaching degree and embarked on a fulfilling career in education.

For a decade, Martie dedicated herself to the students at Carlywood School, where she imparted knowledge, nurtured curiosity, and fostered a love for learning. Her classroom was a place of warmth and encouragement, where every child felt valued and supported on their educational journey.

Martie shared 47 years of her life with her beloved husband, Bill Black, building a partnership rooted in love, understanding, and mutual respect. Together, they navigated life's journey, facing its challenges and celebrating its triumphs hand in hand. Their bond was a shining example of commitment and companionship, a love story that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew them.

Beyond her passion for outdoor adventures, Martie found delight in the creative spirit, eagerly attending craft shows to admire the craftsmanship of talented artisans and add unique treasures to her collection.

But perhaps Martie's greatest legacy lies in the warmth of her spirit and the depth of her love. As a mother, she was not only a source of guidance and wisdom but also a trusted friend and confidante. Martie's unwavering support and infectious positivity touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Martie Black's legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will forever remain a guiding light, inspiring us to embrace life's adventures with the same joy and enthusiasm that she did.

Rest in peace, dear Mom. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
