Margaret Zellmer

December 23, 1952 — August 7, 2018

Margaret ("Marge") Zellmer was a loving and much loved daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and great aunt who died on August 7, 2018. Marge was born on December 23, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio; graduated from Laurel School in 1970, Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin in 1974, and attended University of Wisconsin, Madison for graduate studies in theatre from 1974 to 1976.

While Marge's "day job" for many years involved fundraising and event planning for nonprofit organizations within the Cleveland community, her star truly shined when directing or doing the lighting for Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, CVLT Youth Theatre, Brush High School and other theatre groups who benefitted from her considerable talent. Many young people in the greater Cleveland area began their love of the theatre under the creative talents of Marge. Although Marge studied theatre in both undergraduate and graduate schools, she always credited Bob Steigmiller and the time she worked with him here in Cleveland for her knowledge and skill in providing creative and effective lighting for her many theatre productions.

Marge was a life-long and committed resident of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Marge served on the Shaker Arts Council for many years and has been the President of her Condominium Association for the past 12 years. Marge remained committed to and involved with Laurel School, serving as a Class Agent on several occasions, as Vice President of the Alumnae Association from 2005 to 2008, and Co-Chaired Alumnae Week-end in 2004, 2005 and 2008. When serving on the Alumnae Association, she initiated "The Restaurant Roll", a wonderful opportunity for Cleveland alumnae from all classes to get together at local restaurants. Ten years later the Alumnae Restaurant Roll, Marge's "brainchild", continues in effect.

As anyone who knew her could attest, Marge was a devoted aunt to Lindsay and Katie. Marge opened her arms warmly to AJ, Lindsay's husband, and loved each of their four children, Charlie, Ava, Vincenzo and Violet with all her heart. She applied her considerable creative juices to selecting the perfect present for each and every one of them for birthdays and at Christmastime and always loved it when her present was "the favorite"!

In the last year of her life, Marge faced considerable challenges with her health. She, however, faced them all with grace, her well-known sense of humor, and was fiercely determined not to let these challenges get in her way of living life as best she could. Marge was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.

"Marge" was the beloved daughter of the late Bingham and Violet Zellmer; dear sister of Charles B. Zellmer (Anne) of Orange Village, OH; dear Aunt of Lindsay Zellmer Welgs (Anthony) of Philadelphia, PA and Katie Zellmer of Minneapolis, MN; and dear Great Aunt of Charlie, Ava, Vincenzo and Violet Welgs.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to Laurel School, 1 Lyman Circle, Shaker Hts., OH; Ripon College, 200 W. Seward St., Ripon, WI or The Chagrin Valley Little Theater, 40 River St., Chagrin Falls, OH 44022.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11th at 1 PM in Brown-Forward, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL FRIDAY, AUGUST 10TH FROM 5-7 PM.

Interment Lake View Cemetery.
