Age 89 of Beachwood, OH passed peacefully on July 10, 2023 (her husband’s birthday) with her children and grandchildren nearby. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Helmut A. Alpers, dear mother of Stuart N., Scott C. and Erica S. Allen (James R.), grandmother of Sydney N. and Quinn L. Alpers and Grant A. Allen and sister of Dr. Roland E. Nord.
Born in New Castle, PA and raised in Bessemer and New Castle, PA, she graduated from New Castle High School in 1951 with a desire to be a nurse. As a 1954 graduate from Saint Luke’s Nursing School in Cleveland, OH with a R.N. Degree, she went on to work in a private practice until she met the love of her life, Helmut A. Alpers. Having met on a blind date through close Cleveland friends, they married and began their family in Shaker Heights, OH, moving on to New Canaan, CT for twenty years and finally residing together in Gates Mills and Orange Village, OH.
Marcia devoted her life to assisting others. She volunteered regularly on Red Cross Blood Drives in New Canaan, CT, was a Deacon at the Presbyterian Church in New Canaan, volunteered at the University Hospital Flower Shop in Cleveland and most reverently loved being a part of the Altar Guild at St. Christophers by-the-River Episcopal Church and their annual Bargain Box fundraiser.
She was an ardent lover of crossword puzzles, a book club participant, a competitive Pinochle player with close friends, and should have been a contestant on Jeopardy. Many would say… let’s ask Marcia. She also enjoyed being a member of the Folio Club.
Marcia had a keen interest in worldly travel with her husband and was fortunate to visit many countries. Travel added to her love of cooking which inspired her children and grandchildren to experiment with different recipes. She loved to play tennis, paddle tennis and ski--enjoying winter breaks with family and relatives at Mt. Sutton in the Quebec area. She took up golf later in life which provided many laughs with her family and friends.
Her smiles, generosity and loving kindness will always be remembered.
