Obituary

Linda DeOreo (nee Huettner) was born Linda Lee Huettner in Racine, Wisconsin on September, 22nd 1946 to loving parents Donald Huettner and Analie Huettner (nee Henderson). The Huettners moved to Ohio in 1947, eventually settling on Rye Road in Shaker Heights in 1955. In time the Huettner family grew and Linda was one of six siblings; Donald, David, Christine, Tim and John. Linda Graduated from Beaumont School for Girls with Second Honors in June of 1964 and went on to graduate Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts from Flora Stone Mather College (Case Western Reserve University). Linda was a member of Delta Phi Upsilon where she met Susie Bonner (who went on to become her sister in law Susie Huettner) and her best friends Patricia Siraganian (nee Cimperman) and Janet Nassif (nee Zhun). Pat, Lin and Janet went on to attend Columbia University in New Yok City, where Linda received a scholarship for her Master’s degree in Library Sciences. By this time, Linda was engaged to Peter B. DeOreo of Shaker heights, who had graduated from Willams College and enrolled in Case Western Reserve Medical School. They were married in Shaker in 1968.

After traveling to Baltimore for Peter’s medical residency, they settled in Philadelphia with their eldest child Elizabeth who fondly remembers her early childhood years on Cynwid Circle. By 1979, the DeOreos had returned to Shaker Heights, where they had their second child, Stephen. In the mid 1980s, Linda decided to change careers and obtained her Law Degree from Cleveland Marshall Law school. In 1985. Thanks to several strategically timed camping trips and vacations for Pete and the kids, Linda had enough time to study for the Ohio Bar exam and pass it on her first try. After graduating law school, Lin worked as a staff attorney for Jones Day Reavis and Pogue in Cleveland until her retirement in 2006.

Linda was a loving and supportive wife and mother to Peter, Elizabeth and Stephen and cheered them on through all their various career, academic and personal endeavors from Steve’s hockey games to Elizabeth’s theater rehearsals to Pete’s amateur pool maintenance career and later life golf obsession. After her retirement, Lin and Pete enjoyed traveling the world with their “sibs” Marc and Mary Lackritz with highlights including The Grand Canyon, London, Rome, Buenos Aires and Patagonia. All the while, Lin and Pete kept their home in Shaker as a warm and comfortable home base for friends and family gatherings, holiday meals, impromptu pool parties and occasional safe harbor for Elizabeth and Stephen’s wayward pets. In 2015, The home was also warmed by the presence of their first Grandson, Peter Henderson (Henry) DeOreo.

Linda was a devoted Catholic who attended church at Gesu, Saint Dominic’s and finally Our Lady of Peace in Cleveland. Our Lady of Peace became the venue for Peter and Linda to share their faith. In her last years, Linda faced a series of difficult medical diagnoses with strength, dignity and grace. She passed away at home on May 21st, 2026 surrounded by friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter and is survived by her children Elizabeth, Stephen and Whitney DeOreo (nee Powell), her grandchildren Peter Henderson and Serena Ellen DeOreo and her siblings Christine Williams, Tim and Deb Huettner, Marc and Mary Lackritz, William DeOreo, Paula Schulte, Joellen DeOreo, and Susie Huettner. We will sorely miss our Mother, Sister, Grandmother and friend Linda, but we take solace knowing that her physical illnesses have ended at that her soul is eternally at rest with Peter.
