Our love for Kim
Our loving daughter, Kimberly Ann (Staveskie) Guice, 45 years old, of Shaker Heights, OH, passed away suddenly on February 16, 2026. She was born in Lorain, Ohio on March 24, 1980.
Kimberly attended school in Vermilion, Ohio, and went on to graduate from Case Western Reserve University. Kimberly started a love of playing soccer when she was in elementary school and continued to play soccer all through high school, college and beyond. Kim also enjoyed a love of fishing, especially with her father.
Kim devoted her career as a bridge engineer to the projects and people of the Cleveland office of Michael Baker International for almost 25 years, rising from a college intern to a manager in multiple departments, a seasoned project manager, and highly respected technical advisor. Kim led bridge design on multiple signature projects at Michael Baker, including the Cleveland Innerbelt East 22nd Street bridge. Kim worked to help grow the rail bridge practice and led many railroad bridge design replacements, including the railroad bridge over W. 73rd Street in Cleveland's Gordon Square neighborhood, and a bridge in Circleville, Ohio that was rapidly replaced in only 40 hours.
Kim was passionate about growing the next generation of engineers through mentoring and tutoring students, particularly young women interested in STEM. She volunteered as a tutor through the Association for Bridge Construction and Design and led the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Mentor/ Education Committee and Transportation YOU Committee. This volunteer work materialized in day-long events with the Girl Scouts, working with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Bridge Building Initiative, and partnering with the Cleveland Engineering Society to assist with the Engineering Roadshow program. Kim organized mentor/mentee pairs and even took her mentee to the WTS DC Summit for a week-long immersion experience in transportation design and policy in our nation's capital.
Kim's selflessness and initiative was evident in the opportunities that she brought to the office, from volunteer days at Providence House to spearheading the office's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. She was passionate about doing the hard work of connecting to broader causes and made the office a better place in the process. Kim's generosity with her time and talents, along with her strong leadership skills, resulted in many awards and recognitions. She was honored in 2018 by the Cleveland YWCA with their Distinguished Young Woman Award. In 2020 she was recognized as the National WTS Member of the Year award acknowledging her significant contributions to her chapter and the organization. Later in 2020, she graduated from the Cleveland Leadership Center's Bridge Builders program, a leadership program dedicated to community-focused collaboration.
Kim was smart, kind, and thoughtful - a dedicated coworker and friend. She gave so much of herself and was very focused on providing opportunities for others. We are missing her very deeply, and we will continue to remember her as her thoughtful and extensive efforts live on through her projects and passions.
In addition to all of this Kim's greatest accomplishment was being a loving caring mother to her daughter, Kaitlin. Seeing to it that Kaitlin had every opportunity to grow, to learn and to strive to become strong and independent.
All those who knew Kimberly will remember her for her beautiful smile and her caring, loving nature.
Kimberly is survived by her most precious and beautiful 10 year old daughter, Kaitlin Ann Guice. In addition to her daughter, she leaves behind her parents Richard and Dorothy Staveskie and her siblings Robert Staveskie, John Jehle III, Justine Romell (Tim), Jeremy Jehle (Laura) and Sherry (Staveskie) Kamholz. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard A Staveskie. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on February 27, 2026, 10:30am at the Church of the Gesu, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights, OH 44118 Followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery 14609 Brookpark Rd., Brook Park, OH 44142
