Kevin Ekeberg

November 24, 1990 — August 18, 2015

Kevin Collesi Ekeberg, age 24, died Aug. 18, 2015. Beloved son of Jackie Collesi and Steve Ekeberg. Dear brother of Katherine C. Ekeberg (Rob Watson) and Kelsey C. Ekeberg (Cam Azizi). Dear uncle of Kara Ekeberg. Kevin is also survived by his beloved girlfriend, Meghan Ritchey.

Kevin lived life honestly and without pretense - loving life, family, friends, video games, our dog Keeper, scotch, soccer, girlfriend Meghan, the Cavaliers, vacationing at the Jolli Lodge, Dave's Cosmic Subs and music of a wide range and variety. A Computer Science Major at The Ohio State University, he most enjoyed his minor in Arabic - a language he chose because "it was the first on the list". This led to a summer session studying (ok, he showed up to class... .) in Morocco that was one of the best experiences of his life. Living in a medina in Fez, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, he became immersed in the culture and the people whom he loved. The experience had a major impact on how he viewed the world. Kevin could also spend hours (maybe days... .) playing video games and otherwise disconnecting from the rest of the world. When Kevin did engage with others he was funny and thoughtful and kind, sometimes cynical and always a guardian against bs and sheer bs and those who thought much too highly of themselves. Sometimes profane and utterly disdainful of social convention, he could be the kindest and most compassionate person anyone could know. He was a fierce protector of those he loved. Stories of the support, kindness and generous spirit he shared with others continue to come in - not because he ever talked about what he did but from those that have benefitted from the great person he was. Loved beyond measure by his family and many others, he will be profoundly missed, but his imprint on our lives will last forever.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in the name of Kevin Ekeberg to American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106.

Memorial Services will be held at Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 2757 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118 on Saturday, August 29, at 3 pm. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BOULEVARD, SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH, ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, FROM 2-4 AND 6-8 PM.
