Kathleen M. Owens, Ph.D., age 73 of Shaker Hts., OH. Loving daughter of the late Dr. Francis J. Owens, Sr., M.D. and Lois Parrish Owens; dear sister of F. Joseph Owens (Christie) of Ridgewood, NJ, Stephen Owens of Los Angeles, CA and Gregory M. Owens (Jillann) of Essex, NY; beloved aunt of Charlotte Owens, Elizabeth Packard (Ryan) and Mitchell Owens; and great-aunt to Isabella and Roxanne.
Kathy graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1966. During her youth she worked, both on the stage and behind the stage, at the Cleveland Playhouse. She attended Ohio State University, graduating in 1970 with a B.A. in Philosophy. She continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh as a graduate student in the School of Arts and Sciences under, among others, the profound American Philosopher, Professor Wilfrid Sellars. She submitted a dissertation titled “Rational Action: A Study in Epistemology” and received her Doctor of Philosophy there in 1977. She went on to become a tenured professor of philosophy at Canisius College, Buffalo, New York. She was a member of The National Organization for Women and passionate about Feminist philosophical studies. For pleasure, she read extensively, loved crossword puzzles, and wrote plays and short stories.
