Josephine Hopkins

Josephine "Jo" Louise Ryan Hopkins, age 92 of North Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Shaker Hts., OH, passed away on June 15, 2015. Lifelong Philanthropist - most recently Chairman of the Board of Trustees for People to People International. Louise attended Palm Beach High School, Rollins College as an art major in the 1940's, was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, married her beloved late Benjamin F. Hopkins, Jr.; and became a devoted mother of Janette Hopkins Taylor of FL, Christine Hopkins Bubnick (Ken) of OH, Laura Baxter of CA and the late Pamela Dean Hopkins; upon the death of her sister, Lillian Ryan Lindley in 1966, she also became a loving aunt of Nancy Louise Brand, Diana Lindley Thousand, Elizabeth Lindley Putnam and Denise Lillian Whiting. Merging into one supportive family, she gained 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, all who love her so much! Louise, being an avid world traveler, was the perfect Chairman of the Board of Trustees for People to People and had many conversations with Heads of State and Presidents of foreign countries to further the peaceful relationships of citizens around the world. A highly recognized Woman of the Year, Who's Who in Business, recipient of the Clairborne Pell International Leadership Award, and many People to People honors, Louise's influence stretched far beyond United States borders. She resided in North Palm Beach for the last 25 years of her extraordinary life. Preceding her into heaven are her parents, Lillian (Mimi) McDowell Ryan Watson, Lawrence Marvin Ryan, her step-father Col. Meredith M. Watson.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to American Asthma Foundation Research Program, 500 Parnassus Ave, MU-W416, UCSF, San Francisco, CA 94122. A Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Friday, June 26 in the Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd, Cleveland Hts., OH. Private family interment to follow at Knollwood Cemetery.
