John Shattuck Mueller (“Jack” or “Joda”), 37 years old, passed away in Cleveland, Ohio on September 1. Jack is survived by his father, John M. Mueller (Ann Zoller) of Gates Mills; his mother, Emily H. Taylor (John) of Cleveland Heights; his brother Hartwell (“Wells”) Mueller (Jill), and their son Evans (“Ozzy”) of Cleveland Heights; and his sister Felice D. Mueller (John Graves) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins; and countless friends across the country who loved his gentle spirit and big smile.
Jack brought light, joy, and color into this world through his work creating retail spaces that supported public art and community. His inviting gallery and retail shops in California and Cleveland commercialized his unique sense of style and sought to bring people together through a spiritual and creative connection. His buildings’ facades featured vibrant murals that still brighten their communities. Most recently, his investment in the neighborhood of Waterloo/Collinwood in Cleveland resulted in a retail concept called “PopLife” which sold a variety of products that that caught his discerning eye, and provided an inviting space for yoga, meditation, and community engagement.
Jack graduated from University School in Hunting Valley. He earned an undergraduate business degree with honors from the University of San Francisco. He enjoyed international travel, spirituality, yoga and spending time with family and friends.
He recently suffered some serious setbacks and hardships. He was just on the cusp of working through these challenges, which made his untimely death all the more heartbreaking to his family and friends. The family is grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support from so many. We feel the loss of our son, brother and friend very deeply.
There will be a memorial service for Jack at 4 pm on Thursday, September 16th at the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club. Friends and family are welcome. If you plan to attend please RSVP to email@example.com so that we can make proper arrangements with the club. The service will be Live Streamed via a link at the bottom of this page.
Donations in memory of Jack can be made to the Jack Mueller Fund at LAND Studio, 1939 West 25th Street, Suite 200, Cleveland, Ohio 44113. It is the family’s intention to direct these funds to a public art project in Jack’s honor.
