Johnny M. Stokes

Johnny Mack Stokes was born on January 24,1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Ada and Willie Frank Stokes. Johnny had two siblings, one who proceeded him in death, Willie Louise Winn. John was rooted in a close-knit, loving family who practiced the preachings of God. John started his spiritual journey at a youthful age at Olivet Institutional Church and continued to follow God throughout his life. Joining New Light Missionary Baptist Church with his wife and studying God’s word.

Johnny was educated in the Cleveland Public School System. Graduating from East High. Upon graduating from high school John enlisted in the Army and served his country for two years. John earned a National Defense Service Medal as a marksman.

After his time in the Army, Johnny went on to marry the love of his life, Janet Stokes, who proceeded him in death. Together Johnny and Janet created a loving home for friends and family members, supporting them with love, guidance, and protection. Johnny often worked two jobs to support his family. He retired from Ohio Crank Shaft where he was employed for 29 years.

Most would describe Johnny as witty, intelligent, humorous, calm, and loyal. He was loved by many and could make friends in any sector. Johnny enjoyed spending time with friends and family, bowling, reading, watching old western movies, watching YouTube, and traveling. Johnny had the ability to bring peace to those around him through his sense of faith, sensibility, and his sense of humor.

Johnny leaves behind his sister Cynthia Diane Jones, daughters Monica Carter, Robbin Whatley, and Piper Stokes Jones; his son-in-love, Dwayne Anthony Jones, his grandchildren, Dwayne Mack Jones, and Parin Jones, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

John lived his life to the fullest and will truly be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we are all saddened to say our last goodbye, we can all take comfort in knowing John’s impact on our lives.

A Celebration of Johnny’s life will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 1pm at Brown-Forward Funeral Home, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH. FRIENDS MAY CALL ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE.
