Joanne Stillman

June 4, 1932 — December 3, 2009

Joanne Clark Stillman, daughter of Yates and Helen, wife of the late Edward Stillman, sister of the late Tommy Clark, mother to Clark Mary, Jenny Gulliver,Allan, Elaine Orr and Wendy Huffman, step mother to Deanne and Nancy, grandmother to 8 and great grandmother to 2, died peacefully in her sleep from complications from Alzheimers on December 3rd. She was surrounded by those who had lovingly cared for her for the last several years. Joanne was born in 1932 and spent much of her life living in Shaker Heights. As a child she spent her summers in Canada at Lake Tomogamy with her extended family which instilled a love of the water. She introduced her children to this joy and spent many summers on the lake in their cottage in Madison, Ohio. Joanne attended Malvern School, Laurel School and graduated from The House in the Pines boarding School. Joanne's father Yates Clark was the owner of Clarks Restaurants where Joanne spent time working in the kitchen. This cultivated a life long love of cooking and entertaining. She entertained effortlessly and graciously and a Stillman party was not to be missed. Joanne and Ed were married in 1960 and shared a passionate life together for 36 years. They spent most of their years together living in Gates Mills which brought them much joy. Joanne's devotion to Ed was evident when he died in '96. A part of her died as well and she stuggled to carry on without him. Her struggles with Alzheimer's Disease started shortly thereafter. Joanne was an avid gardener and was involved with the Sundial Garden Club. Tennis was also a very important part of her life and she enjoyed many years and many friendships at the Cleveland Racquet Club. Amazingly, she continued to play until just a few years ago. Joanne was a real dog lover and cherished many faithful companions throughout her life. She will always be remembered for her love of the outdoors, her exuberance and zest for life. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, PO BOX 72914 Cleveland, OH, 44194.
