Jacqueline “Jackie” Broadbent, 95, of Madison, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. She was born Jacqueline Ann Owens on July 27, 1930, in Utica, New York, to Helen Parson Owens and Ralph Griffith Owens.
Jackie graduated from Northfield School for Girls, now Northfield Mount Hermon, in Northfield, Massachusetts, and the University of Oklahoma (class of 1952), where she studied social work. A member of of Alpha Phi sorority, she was honored as a “Big Woman on Campus,” a recognition that delighted her.
After training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Jackie moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked as an orthoptist, specializing in children’s eye movement disorders. It was there that she met her husband, Dr. B. Holly Broadbent, Jr., an orthodontist and longtime faculty member at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. They married in 1956 and raised two daughters in Chagrin Falls, Cleveland Heights, and Kirtland Hills, Ohio. Later, they moved to Madison, Ohio where they enjoyed Lake Erie. Their marriage stood as a lasting example of patience, humor, and facing life’s challenges together.
A dedicated member of the Junior League of Cleveland, she found fulfillment in volunteer work at Lantern Court at the Holden Arboretum, where she pursued her love of history and antique furniture. Jackie was an animal lover and lifelong horseback rider. She and Holly spent many years at Little Mountain House in Kirtland Hills, a historic home originally constructed in 1472 in England and later reassembled in Ohio in 1945 by Leonard C. Hanna, Jr. Jackie delighted in restoring and maintaining this home and hosting many events there, including an annual Christmas party for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Thomas Owens. Jackie is survived by daughters, Elizabeth (Becke) Broadbent and Meredith (Merry) Broadbent; and her grandsons, C. Jess Riedel and William Riedel.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
