Helen Bookshar

February 27, 1924 — May 2, 2009

Helen Bookshar-Timm, 85, of Albion, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Fairmount Health Center of Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio. She is survived by her three sons, Dan, Duane Barb and Regis Susan in the Cleveland area as well as three grandchildren, Jesse of Columbus, Jodie and Rob of Cleveland and many nieces and nephews. She was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania in 1924, the daughter of Zuzanna and John Pangrac. After she married George Bookshar in 1942 they lived in Republic, Pennsylvania where their 3 sons were born. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1956 where she became active with the St. James Lutheran Church in East Cleveland. Their home was always available for her church group and her sons and their friends. She worked for many years at the Bailey Meter Company. In 1974 Helen and George bought a 75 acre farm in Albion, Pennsylvania. They spent their weekends rebuilding the farm house and moved there following her retirement in 1985. They enjoyed gardening, camping, and becoming active in such organizations as the Grange. George passed away in 1989. Her way of life in Albion had become very important to her. She gave her time to the Red Cross and the Senior Center as well as the Elk Creek Township Historical Society of which she became president in 1995. When Helen married Henry Timm in 1994 she added to her family his daughter Carol Kapala, now deceased, Ron, and son Robert Timm Debbie. Henry also had 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren that Helen enjoyed spending time with. Henry died in 2007. She is remembered both in Cleveland and in Albion for her hospitality. Her home-made pieroghis and blueberry pie, with blueberries grown on her farm, were always considered "the best". She enjoyed reading and playing cards. Helen was an expert at many crafts including crocheting, quilting and sewing. Whether making afghans, hats for newborns, quilts for her grandchildren, or items for the Red Cross, she was always willing to contribute her time and talents. Even during the last weeks of her life, she was busy making miniature crocheted hats and afghans for premature infants. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44106, Fairmount Health Center of Breckenridge Village, 36855 Ridge Rd, Willoughby, OH or the Elk Creek Township Historical Society, 10405 High St, Albion, PA 16401.
