Elizabeth Salomon

August 8, 1924 — January 29, 2022

Elizabeth H. Salomon (nee Lowenstein), age 97 of Cleveland, OH.  Beloved wife of the late Roger B. Salomon, Ph.D; dear mother of Pam S. Zuban (Joseph E.) of Cleveland Hts., OH and Wendy Salomon of Arlington, VA; dear grandmother of Peter J. Zuban (Alexandra B.) of Cleveland Hts., Saul Zimmerman (Rachel) and Sophia Zimmerman, both of Arlington, VA; dear great-grandmother of Merritt James Zuban and Noah Zimmerman.

Betty was ahead of her time in many ways. She received her Master's degree in Social Work and got advanced training in Psychoanalysis. Betty was always inquisitive about human nature and wondered why people did what they did and would look deep into the reasons for people's action. When she was young, she began her lifelong passion for civil rights. She worked for the Congress of Racial Equality, and even in her eighties she was driving people to the polls. Betty remained active in politics and was up to date on social issues until the end of her life.

Roger was the love of Betty’s life. Betty met Roger on a boat when they were both going to spend the summer at a Quaker work camp. Betty was 24 and Roger was only 20, (yes, she was older!), They had a love story which lasted 72 years. Betty and Roger were fiercely devoted to each other. They loved to travel, they loved to entertain, loved the arts, and spending time with her family.

Betty was a lover of life. She would go out to eat, spend time with friends, cook, read, and was always living her best life. Her grit determination, and independence was admirable. Betty was beloved by many, and leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to GroundWorks Dance Theater, 13125 Shaker Square #102, Cleveland, OH 44120 (www.groundworksdance.org) or to the Roger B. Salomon Dissertation Fellowship, Case Western Reserve University, 10900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106-7035.  A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, February 19 at Brown-Forward, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH 44120.  Interment, Lake View Cemetery.  This service will be live streamed.
