Eleanor M. Boughner

Eleanor Margaret Boughner (nee Schneider) passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at Judson Park retirement community.

Eleanor was born in 1930 in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Emil and Margaret Schneider and was raised in Arlington, New Jersey. She spent many happy summers at the family’s home in Brant Lake, New York, where she loved to canoe. Eleanor graduated from Kearny High School in 1948 and received an Associate’s Degree from the Scudder School in Manhattan. While working at Electric Auto-lite in the Chrysler Building in New York City, she met her beloved husband, Albert Kingsley Boughner, marrying in 1959.

Albert joined the Ford Motor Company in the early 1960’s, a job which necessitated many family moves. Without complaint, Eleanor coordinated many family moves during the 1960’s and early 1970’s including England, Germany, and twice in Michigan, before settling in Shaker Heights, OH in 1974.

Along the way, Eleanor and Albert welcomed three children: Ann Elizabeth, born in Montclair, New Jersey; James Albert, born in Epping, England; and Suzanne Marie, born in Bad Godesberg, Germany.

Eleanor loved her Shaker Heights home and spent many hours gardening and playing her grand piano (a gift from her father in 1937). Albert and Eleanor enjoyed traveling the world together including visits to Hong Kong, London, Lithuania, Tunisia, and India. After Albert’s death in 2007, Eleanor continued to travel, visiting family in China, Germany, and Austria.

Eleanor was also the loving step-mother of Leslie C. Boughner; dear grandmother of Robert C., Eric B. and Maxim A. Boughner; step-grandmother of Peter S. Liu (Jennifer Kozak); and great nana of Andrew and Jonathan Liu.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 10am at Wade Memorial Chapel in Lake View Cemetery.
