Edward B. Dudley III, affectionately known as Ed, “Books,” “Easy Ed,” “Steady Eddie,” and “Rebel,” passed away on February 3after a courageous seven-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, a devastating and incurable neurological condition.

Ed was the loving husband of Debbie for 41 years and the proud father of Will and Beau, who were his greatest joy. A 1964 graduate of Shaker Heights High School, Ed went on to attend the University of North Carolina before pursuing a career as a Professional Land Surveyor. Ed’s favorite hobbies were playing handball, growing dahlias, running stadium steps and acting as Recreation Director at his vacation home in Chatauqua, NY.

He is survived by his wife and sons; his siblings Bill of Port Townsend, WA; Scott Newman (Anita) ; Nancy Newman of Newark, NJ; and his cherished niece, Zoe Hager of Brooklyn, NY. Ed was preceded in death by his brothers Marty and Jim, and his loving nephew Eric Hager.

Ed also leaves behind dear friends and extended family members who supported him throughout his illness, including the Bittenbender families, Judy & Bill Berk, Mike Bonfils, Keith Brown, Pat Cigetich, Paula Coakley, Gary Davis, Therese & Jim Drake, Cindy Grabner, Lisa Hinton, Delia McDermott, Marybeth & Kevin McDermott, Karen & Matt O’Hearn, Joe Pasquino, Margie Reimer, Meagan & Andrew Salata and The Riverstone Crew. With their compassion and friendship, Ed’s final months were filled with comfort, dignity, laughter and love.

There will be a little less light in our world without Ed, but his quiet strength, warmth, and gentle smile will be remembered always by those fortunate to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to InMotion, 23905 Mercantile Rd., Beachwood, OH 44122, The Cleveland Food Bank, 13815 Coit Rd., Cleveland, OH 44110 or a Charity of your choice.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Wednesday, March 11th, at the Cleveland Skating Club, 2500 Kemper Rd., Shaker Hts., OH 44120, from 2-4pm, with remembrances by family members at 3pm.
