Edith Furst Howell

Edith Furst Howell died peacefully on October 25, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband William Warren Howell. Edith, a fourth generation Chicagoan, was the daughter of William H. Furst and Edith E. Furst. She is survived by daughters Elizabeth (Ian) MacCallum of New Vernon, NJ and Suzanne (Christopher) Smythe of Shaker Heights, OH, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her brother William C. Furst (Virginia) of Glencoe, IL.

Edith was an alumna of New Trier High School, Vassar College and Northwestern University. She met Bill at Harris Trust and Savings Bank and the two were married in 1953. Edith and Bill raised their family in Winnetka, IL where they were active in village affairs and worked to preserve its unique character.  Edith’s interest in interior design led her to establish her own successful design business. Edith loved gardening and flower arranging. She was a member of the Garden Club of Winnetka and Green Meadows Garden Club.
