A resident of Shaker Heights for 39 years, Dave was a Certified Financial Planner MBA, CFP, CLU, ChFC, CASL, LUTCF. He was also a Commander in the United States Coast Guard. Dave served 5 years active duty in Viet Nam, Hawaii, Philippines and New Orleans. He retired from the Coast Guard with 27 years as an officer in the Reserve.
He was raised in Louisville, KY following early years in Greenwich, CT.
He graduated Aquinas Country Day high school in Louisville, KY where he was designated All State in soccer.
As a child, he spent his summers with his family in Port Henry, NY. Following previous generations in the Witherbee family, he attended Camp Dudley, Westport, NY (Camper #8928).
Dave was a graduate of Wesleyan University class of ‘66. He was a member of Kappa Nu Kappa Fraternity and played lacrosse. Dave also graduated from the University Of Virginia Darden Graduate School Of Business. This April he was inducted into the Abbott Society at Darden during his 50th reunion.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Lapeyre Boyle, his children Amy Boyle of Portland, OR and John-David (Molly) Boyle of Columbus, OH, his siblings: Sheila Bleakley and Silas Boyle of Louisville, KY, Timothy Boyle of Franklin, TN.
He is the proud "Bampa" of his 3 grandchildren Ainsley, Thayer, and Everett.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Herbert Boyle and Nancy Witherbee Boyle, and his brother Terrance.
Dave had a passion for vintage red wine, patch madras pants and the Cleveland Browns. He was a diehard Brown’s season ticket holder who remained at every game to the end no matter the weather or score.
Saturday Dec 2, David will be honored at a gathering of remembrance at the family Shaker Heights residence, from 12:30-3pm.
He will be interred in Port Henry, NY.
