Daniel Ray “Danny” Canter was born in Bristol, VA on August 12, 1958 and passed away at Bristol Regional Medical Center on September 28, 2023 at the age of 65.
A 1976 graduate of Virginia High School, Danny was an outstanding athlete. He starred on the football and baseball teams and is remembered as one of the best quarterbacks in school history. He continued his football career with a scholarship to Appalachian State University before returning home to pursue his true passion for horses. Danny ultimately graduated from Virginia Intermont College in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Equestrian Science.
Danny was a devoted and well-respected professional horseman. His distinct voice, infectious spirit, and fun-loving personality made the sport a true joy for his students and peers. He established his career in the horse business with former wife Marianne Canter (nee Stanner) in the Chagrin Valley but shared his talent and love for the sport with students and trainers across the country.
Danny was the proud and loving father of Kyle Canter and Emmaclare (Bryan) Leuszler of Chagrin Falls, OH and Quinn Canter of Bangkok, Thailand. Caring and delighted grandfather of Braxton Canter, Tatum Canter, Crew Canter, Esmé Leuszler, and Otto Leuszler, all of Chagrin Falls, OH. Loving brother to David Canter and nieces Audrey Canter and Ella Canter of Chattanooga, TN. Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Beverly Ray Canter and Virginia Lee Wood Canter.
Please join us to fondly reminisce and celebrate Danny’s life on Friday, October 13th from 4-6pm at South Russell Village Park, 1000 Bell Rd., in Chagrin Falls, OH.
