December 3, 1924 — January 5, 2009

CHARLES R. "CHARLIE" LONGO, Age 84, Died January 5th in The Hospice House of The Hospice of the Western Reserve, Cleveland, OH. Charlie was the beloved husband of Betty nee Brown of Shaker Hts., O, the cherished father of David F. Longo Lorri of Lyndhurst, OH, Charles "Bud" Longo Colleen, Jane A. Longo and Kerry J. Longo, all of Shaker Hts., OH and the loving Papa of Tim, Jeff and Brad Longo. He was the dear brother of the late Anthony "Bud" Longo and Antoinette L. Boothe. Charlie was born in Cleveland and graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1943. He played two sports for Shaker High, as a guard in both football and basketball. Because of the war, there was no school baseball team so he played outfield for the city sponsored team. After graduation, he went into the US Navy, serving as a signalman in the South Pacific and North Atlantic theaters. After the war, he returned to Cleveland to work as a partner with his father in the Longo Service Station in the old food terminal section of town. Later, Charlie worked as a salesman for the Cleveland Growers Group before opening up the first of the Brownberry Ovens franchises in the Cleveland area. He retired in 1986. Over the years his love for sports was evident with his longtime association with the Shaker Boys Baseball League, serving as both team manager and Executive Board member. He was still a regular at the high school baseball games where he watched his son, Bud, coach the varsity for many years and followed his grandsons' play at all levels. Charlie was also a long time member of the Shaker Businessmen's Bowling League. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 8th at 10 am in The Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., at Norwood Rd. Shaker Hts., OH. Interment Lake View Cemetery. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH WEDNESDAY 2-4 AND 6-8 PM.
