Barbara Jean Vero

Barbara Jean Vero (nee Squire) “Barbie”, 83, beloved wife, mother, sister, and coach passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

Barbara was born April 6, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio. From an early age Barbara was dedicated to figure skating.  In her early years she trained year round honing her craft and briefly skated with the Ice Follies as a young woman. For over 40 years she taught competitive figure skating in the Cleveland area and directed numerous Ice Shows at Thornton Park in Shaker and the Cleveland Heights Pavilion. Barbara loved her students and remained involved in many of their lives until the time of her passing.

After her retirement from skating, Barb used her artistic skills and creativity to illustrate and write a children's book inspired by her recovery from polio as a child. She also loved to spend time volunteering for the “OHIO READS” program in Aurora Elementary Schools.  Barbara was an avid gardener, and enjoyed time visiting local area parks, especially her beloved Squire’s Castle.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Anthony Vero; parents Martha Agnes (nee Haworth) and Feargus Bowden Squire II; and sister Sandra Hall.

She is survived by her sons Brandon, Creighton, and Ryan (Tamara); grandchildren Emily Isa, Bryce, Ryan Taylor, and Shea; her sister Margot (Gerald) Keith; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

A joint memorial service for both Barb and Joe, her husband of 59 years, will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 10am at The Church of Aurora, 146 S. Chillicothe Rd, Aurora, OH 44202.

In lieu of flowers, she would have been honored to know a donation was made to your favorite charity, making the world a little brighter for future generations.
