Anahid Aghajanian was an adored sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was a good friend and inspiration to many. Anahid was born in 1913 in Arabkir, Turkey. At a young age, in the care of the matriarchs of her family, Anahid escaped the atrocities of the Armenian genocide. After a long and tumultuous journey, they ultimately settled in Constantinople Istanbul, Turkey. It was here that she spent her formidable years. Unlike many women of that time, she received an extensive education and was fluent in five languages. After finishing her schooling, Anahid along with her Grandmother, Mother and Brother, moved to the US in 1936. They arrived in San Francisco where she took a job as a designer at I. Magnin. Shortly after, they relocated once again to Hollywood, where Anahid would continue at I. Magnin designing couture for the stars as well as modeling. In 1938, a successful business man, Sooren Aghajanian from Cleveland, OH, pursued her hand in marriage. This was the beginning of her new career as wife & mother. Sooren & Anahid lived in Shaker Hts, where they raised their family, entertained friends and were active community members for many decades. Anahid was an active member of the guild at St. Paul's Church until 1964 when her fundraising skills helped to build St. Gregory of Narek Church in Richmond Hts., OH. Anahid was an active part of the Women's Guild as well as involved with dear friends Marie & Alex Manoogian's efforts with the Armenian General Benevolent Union. Anahid's dedication & loyalty didn't end with her family & church. She was a truly generous & philanthropic person through & through. She was particularly focused on those less fortunate than herself. There was always an extra smiling face at the table at holidays & special occasions. She believed everyone should have a family to come home to. She was that family for so many. Anahid was an icon of style, sophistication and grace. She touched the lives of all that she came in contact. She will be sorely missed, but will remain in our hearts always.
