When Scout and Chasey walked into a room, they filled it with life and light.

Heidi describes her daughters as being as close as any sisters could be. Their personalities may have been different—Scout the selfless, nurturing “second mother” and Chasey the quick-witted “firecracker”—but they loved each other with their whole hearts.

J.J.’s eyes sparkle when he thinks about how his daughters’ presence felt like instant electricity. “They were charming. They were sweet. They were powerful. They were adored,” he says.

The family may be the only ones who technically live there, but everyone feels right at home at the Scaravilli house.

It’s the place where all the kids hang out, where they laugh and splash in the pool by day and roast s’mores when the fireflies start to flicker.

It’s where Scout would spend hour after hour in the backyard, giving pep talks to her best friends.

“She always saw the best in everyone and gave us encouragement. She was the one who brought us all together,” they say.

And they pledge to stay together for the rest of their lives, because “that’s what Scout would have wanted.”

Chasey’s cousins recall that she had the kind of confidence that was never overbearing. Instead, her clever sassiness made everyone smile. Chasey had a knack for getting what she wanted, including making the sailing race team, winning awards for her ice skating performances, and skiing the slopes with her family.

A creative and magical soul, Chasey’s friends remember the time she convinced them to make fairy potions and leave them outside overnight.

Scout, 14, and her sister Chasey, 12, spent their last moments together cuddling side by side on a breezy springtime evening. And while they are no longer physically with us, everyone who knew them knows that their spirits could never be diminished.

Twins Coco and Cassidy are incredibly grateful for the role models their sisters were and will continue to be for them, now in their hearts as two shining lights.

“I’ll always remember that Scout had a beautiful face, but also a beautiful soul,” Coco says.

And Cassidy laughs when she thinks about the times she would sneak into Chasey’s closet and come out wearing something cute and fashionable, because Chasey “had the best style.”

Both Chasey and Scout were fiercely intelligent. They loved the years they spent attending school at Hathaway Brown, where they were outstanding students who worked hard in the classroom and always inspired their friends and classmates to work hard too.

Scout was a gifted athlete. She played field hockey and lacrosse; she also loved skiing and boxing. But her greatest thrill was sailing. She could never get enough of the freedom of being on the water with the wind in her hair.

Chasey was born for the stage. She enjoyed acting and singing and being the center of attention. Her dad says she “just couldn’t stay still, no matter how hard she tried.”

Scout and Chasey cared deeply for everyone they knew, and their parents take comfort in knowing that they will always be wrapped in each other’s arms.

In addition to their loving parents, Heidi and J.J., and cherished younger sisters, Coco and Cassidy, Scout and Chasey leave behind hundreds of friends and family members.

In lieu of flowers, J.J. and Heidi request donations may be made to the Scout and Chasey Scaravilli Memorial Fund at Hathaway Brown School, 19600 North Park Blvd., Shaker Heights, OH 44122, or https:// hb.edu/Scaravilli
