Kermit Wolford

December 24, 1940 — June 9, 2022

Kermit was born in Columbus, Ohio at the end of 1940 to parents Orville William Wolford and Ida Fay Wolford.  He was a graduate of North High School and The Columbus State University, both in Columbus, Ohio.  After moving to Cleveland, Ohio as a young man, he worked as a night auditor at the Somerset Inn in Shaker Heights, Ohio.  Later, Kermit became a revenue agent with the Internal Revenue Service and married his first wife, Louise Wolford.  They had a son, Todd Wolford, in 1977.  When Louise died unexpectedly in an accident, Kermit became a landlord and full-time dad.  He was an avid bridge player and active in the Cleveland Whist Club, the local unit of the American Contract Bridge League.  Kermit met his second wife, Cathy Wolford, at a bridge tournament and they were married in 1988.  Their daughter, Deanna Wolford, was born in 1990.  Kermit’s involvement in the Cleveland Whist Club included serving as President from 1991-1992, being recognized as Member of the Year in 2011, achieving the rank of Ruby Life Master and serving as Hospitality Chair for many years.  Kermit enjoyed traveling with his family.  Favorite destinations were Vero Beach, Florida and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  He also took several cruises in the Caribbean and an especially exciting cruise in the Alaska Glacier National Park.  Two exceptional trips to Hawaii were quite memorable.

Kermit is greatly missed by his family and friends.  As is typical of his overall outlook, daughter Deanna recalls that he recently said, "I have no claim on this earth."  A Celebration of Life gathering is planned for early August with details to be announced later.  Donations in Kermit’s memory may be made to The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Cleveland
