Donald W. Morrison

March 31, 1926 ~ November 2, 2018 (age 92)

Don had many activities in his life. He was born in Portland, Oregon where he spent his formative years. In high school he had many activities, including being First Clarinet in his school orchestra and that of the All-City Orchestra. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned to its V-12 unit at the University of Washington. While at the University he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, was awarded membership in Sigma Xi, the national Science honorary and in Zeta Mu Tau, the Mathematics honorary. He graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, following which he served a year in the Navy, mainly in Chinese waters. In 1947 he enrolled in the Stanford University Law School, getting his law degree in 1950, and then returned to Portland where he became a partner in what was then Pendergrass, Spackman and Bullivant.

Don and Elizabeth Perry were married in 1953 and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Carol. In 1962 he became Oregon Attorney with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co., a part of the Bell System. In 1966 he transferred to AT&T in New York where he spent two years working primarily with the company's early satellite system. In 1966 he became Counsel at Illinois Bell where he served until 1974, when he became Vice President and General Counsel of The Bell Telephone Company in Cleveland, Ohio. In Portland Don was a member of the Board of the Cascade Area Council of the Boy Scouts and Chairman of the Council's Camping Committee, having a Scout Troop and Explorer Post of his own. He served on the Board of the Portland Children's Home and was President of the Portland Traveler's Aid Society and of the Portland City Club. He was also a Deacon in his church. In New York he was a co-founder of the Stanford Law Society of New England and New York and while in Chicago was active in Bar activities, the Stanford Alumni Association and a member of the Board of Lake Forest High School.

In Cleveland he served on various non-profit boards, including the Cleveland Play House, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, the Cleveland Archaeological Society, Les Delice, and The Cleveland Orchestra. He was President of the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Citizens' Research Institute.

Don passed away on Nov. 2, 2018, and will be interred with his wife, Elizabeth, in Cleveland's Lake View Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter Carol and three grandchildren: Jonathan Bingham, Sarah Leino and Douglas Bogan.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Donald W. Morrison Memorial Fund at Church of the Western Reserve, 30500 Fairmount Blvd., Pepper Pike, OH 44124.  A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 16th at 11:00 AM at South Franklin Circle, 16575 South Franklin Street, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023 in the Community Center, Valet provided.
